3 Ultimate Hacks for Sticking to Your Workout

We’ve all been there before. 

Let me recount the scene. 

You’ve decided to turn over a new leaf in your wellness. 

You say, “this time it’s gonna be different! This time, I’m going to go farther and do better!”  

You pick out a rigorous workout routine to start off! Commit yourself to eating only salads from now on! 

You start out great with lots of zeal proposing to achieving your goals. 

A few weeks go by and you backslide by eating that forbidden piece of chocolate cake you hid from yourself in the fridge. 

You allow yourself to cheat and move on. 

A few more weeks go by and after a stressful day at work, you decide to just skip the workout and take the day. 

A few more weeks go by and you’re completely frustrated with your efforts. 

Your anger begins with your weigh in that morning and ends with the lifeless salad you’ve prepared for the umpteenth time! 

This is the part where you give up and tell yourself, “Ugh… Guess I should just accept the way things are!”

If you’re anything like me, this scene has been a part of your life before. And not just once, but enough times for you to be completely turned off to the whole “health vibe” in general!

I get it because I’ve been there before. And I think I’ve found a solution to how to push forward.

Getting healthier involves so many things! Your heart, your will, your mindset, your emotions, everything! 

Here are the hacks I’ve learned when it comes to achieving your weight management goals. I like to refer to these ultimate hacks because they’re essential to virtually anything you’re going to achieve in life including your fitness, so if you’re struggling in any other life areas, take note of the three suggestions below to get unstuck!

Write Down Your Plan 

I have found that when I make a plan for achieving my weight goals, that’s when I start to see progress across the board. It’s as easy as getting a special notebook, or entering it on an app on your phone. No matter what, don’t skip this step! Take a before picture of yourself and then plan out where you’re going. If your focus is on weight management, write down your goal weight by a certain date. Whenever you get to a low point, (and you will because we all do) you’ll be amazed at how your mind will stick to your original goals and the plans you wrote down in the beginning. Use this failsafe as a mechanism to keep you on track and accountable to yourself. When you do this, you’re giving yourself a 90% chance of staying on your journey no matter what comes your way! 

Change Your Mindset by Incorporating Conscious Language

This hack is totally about your mindset. Instead of thinking, “I’ve got to give up my favorite ______!”, why not think in the other direction? It takes just as much brain power to think on one side of the equation as the other side. And if that’s the case, you can easily think more progressive thoughts like, “I get to add in more yummy veggies and healthy snacks into my diet,” and, “I get to learn time saving hacks so I can be more active and burn more calories!” Changing your thought process on this is so key because as long as you think you’re losing out on something, you’ll be tempted by it and then it becomes “forbidden” and we all know what happens when our brain has identified something as forbidden. It becomes our guilty pleasure. So incorporate a new mindset into your new lifestyle by practicing conscious language! Start talking in the affirmative, and you’ll set your mindset up for success!

Widen Your Connection

We might have called on a few friends to workout with us in the beginning and that’s great! But there’s a difference between doing your workout journey alongside your friends and doing your workout journey with others who are trying to accomplish the same goals as you. Your friends will totally support you, but keep in mind that they may not be on the exact same page when it comes to your wellness goals, and that’s ok. They shouldn’t be used as an excuse for you not achieving your goals. Love them from afar, keep them in the loop, and then widen your friend circles. Connect to a community of like-minded peeps who are just as committed to reaching their goals as you are. Success breeds success; and if it’s true that you’re the average of the five people you most spend time with, then leverage your chance of being a part of a like-minded community so you can stick to your goals.
